I spoke several times at the Council Meetings about Non Fossil Energy From Our PlanetFor Camas. I'd like to start a dialogue on this topic to see if there is enough interest here in Camas about pursing more Solar & Wind energy sources. Because I continue to research Non-Fossil Fuel energy I came across this this "Roof top Wind Power which looks pretty exciting.

I did my MBA/PHD dissertation on Non Fossil Fuel Energy Sources & In Homes/Buildings Water Recycling Systems. I've been involved with these systems for over 30 years. One drop of incoming fresh water can be recycled 5 times over & that last drop of water is clean enough to water non-food-providing plants, converting existing homes & buildings to "Earthship Technology".
The other thing I've been involved with is developing "Neighborhood Solar & Wind Grids" using Smart Energy Systems. This is about taking a neighborhood like mine for instance about 20 homes, Installing Solar & Wind, hooking the homes together & having a Central Power Station in the neighborhood & using the local power utility company as the back up system. So this is not intended to be "Off The Grid" power source.
The idea is that all the homes do not use the same amount of power 24/7/365, some more some less & with the Sharing Technology now available no home would ever be with out power in fact by having the neighborhood power station controlling the transfer of electric power the excess power would be transferred to the local Power Utility Producer & we would receive payment or credit.
I got Solar quotes on all three of my houses. The California Seacliff Beach House & the Camas House would would run the meter backwards 10 to 11 months per year. In both cases I would get credit from the power company to pay for those months if any that I needed to draw power from the power company.
For The Flagstaff, AZ House, AZ Power actually offered to pay for, install & manage the solar panels. They knew our home would produce more power than we could use & the excess goes back into the local grid.
I would love to hear your ideas, pro or con.

Interesting points Randy, What is the ballpark initial investment per homeowner to get something started for a local installment that you describe? Obviously you'd get a discount based on scale if multiple neighbors participated, but a general range is helpful to consider the idea.
I've always heard that the sun doesn't get high enough in the sky technically to produce Vitamin D efficiently for humans up in the PNW leading to many using supplements, does that same issue impact solar capture at all? Is the wind a much more crucial part of a complete system up here versus other parts of the country because of our rain and potential sunlight limitations?
@Phil Williams On all three of my houses, the Ball Park figure has been $45K to $50k including tax to put enough panels on each house to run the meter backwards & depending upon which state & utility company, I would have gotten cash or credit back due to the excess power my systems would have collected.
This pricing includes State & Federal Credits & Discounts for Seniors & Veterans for installing the systems & this varies per state & time of purchase.
Purchasing a Battery Free Solar System today would probably cost less overall & the solar panels are continually being improved & longer lasting.
I did put a few panels on my Seacliff Beach house because in Santa Cruz for a few years we had what we called "Dirty Power" & Power Outages, I used both battery dry cells & 6 volt wet cells hooked up in series to produce 12 volts DC & converted to 110 AC. I used DC & AC computers & appliances. Now, I did not mix wet cell batteries with dry cells, I had two systems. The 6 volt Marine wet cell was called the "Work Horse" of batteries because you could abuse them & beat them to death & bring them back to life by keeping the fluid topped off & cleaning them up.
I also installed solar panels with battery systems on my two 25ft RV's a Class A & Class C. I used 4 large panels on each vehicle & 6 6v wet cell batteries. For all my solar systems hose & RV's I got everything I needed; batteries, converters, switch boxes, testing equipment, etc from West Marine in Santa Cruz.
Running these RV's with Full DC/AC Systems was very trippy! I could be making coffee, popcorn or watch one of 3 TV's while my wife was driving. She liked to drive & I like messing around with stuff. The other benefit is that when going camping there's nothing worse than some selfish idiot coming into a campground anytime, day or night running their generators, people will come knowing on your door mad!
How Long Do Solar Panels Last in 2020? | EnergySage. As a general solar industry rule of thumb, solar panels last about 25-30 years. However, this doesn't mean that they stop producing electricity after 25 years – it just means that energy production has declined by what manufacturers consider to be a significant amount. Feb 4, 2019
In all three cases, I would have used my Home Equity Loan & not my money because besides the discounts & credits I would be able to write off the interest. In actuality the solar systems would cost me very little because I would not longer have a electric utility bill & that cost savings would pay off the HomeEquityLoan in less than 4 to 5 years. Once the loan was paid off I would have no cost for electric power.
Also the systems can be deprecated every year saving on State & Federal Taxes even more.

What happens to solar panels after 25 years?
In reality, solar panels can last quite a bit longer than that: the warranty typically guarantees panels will work above 80% of their rated efficiency after 25 years. A study by NREL shows that the majority of panels still produce energy after 25 years, albeit at slightly reduced output.Jun 7, 2018 How Long Do Solar Panels Last? - Wholesale Solar www.wholesalesolar.com › blog › how-long-do-solar-pan...
